DIY Mason Jar Craft

How many of you have thought about what to do to recycle old mason jars? Or love the look of it and bought some to do crafts with? I got together with my friend Michelle and we made some super cute Mason Jar vases/containers.

Feel free to follow the directions, and if you make some really neat ones with a twist feel free to share in the comments or email me pictures at KatiesCrochetGoodies@hotmail.com

These could be used for many events such as baby showers, weddings, bridal showers, kitchen table centerpieces, or brightening up bathrooms and kitchens!

I made the fabric covered one with the crocheted flower, and Michelle made the cute rustic one with the hemp and pine cone. The link to hers is at the bottom of this post.

I started off by ironing the piece of fabric I was going to use for the mason jar. I wanted the edges to be straight and look clean so I folded each side up and ironed it in place to have a nice firm edging all the way around.

Next, I covered the top part of the mason jar top with the same fabric and hot glued it to the inside of the top where it will be hidden. It doesn't look great on that side, but who's gonna see it? ;)

Then I took my hot glue gun and glued down the fabric so that there was no pieces hanging out or falling off. Make sure you cut the end that will be glued last as shown in the picture above or you will see the second layer of fabric peeking though.

How to crochet a rose
Next, I made a crocheted rose to go on the front of the mason jar using a pattern from Crochet Geek, you can view it here

I made the rose, stitched it together, tie off the ends and hot glued it to the front of the mason jar. Be careful, the hot glue seeps through the yarn as you are attaching and pressing it down. But hey, it's worth a few burns, right? LOL

There ya have it, a fabric covered mason jar with a crocheted flower. The top has the same fabric as around the edges, so it could be used as a cute container for buttons, Q-tips, cotton balls, or take the lid off and use as a beautiful vase as shown in the picture below!
