Free Owl Hat Crochet Pattern - Sleeping & Awake

I have another easy free crochet pattern for you! It's a free newborn owl hat pattern - this one is PERFECT for beginners. The owl hat can be made with as a sleeping owl hat, or an awake owl hat. Size: Newborn

Gauge: 12 sts, 7 rows = 4” in dc with H (5mm) Hook

Finished Measurements: About 5” Height (crown to brim), 5 ¾” Wide

Materials:

H crochet Hook (5.00MM)

65 Yards Worsted Weight (4-medium weight) Yarn

Tapestry Needle

Abbreviation Guide:

St = Stitch

Sl st = Slip Stitch

DC = Double Crochet

HDC = Half Double Crochet

Ch = Chain

How to read this pattern: This pattern is worked in rounds, each round is joined with a slip stitch.

Instructions:

HAT

With Tan:

Ch 4, sl st in 1^st ch to make a ring

RD 1: Ch 2, 13 dc into ring

RD 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each st around

RD 3-5: Ch 2, dc in the same st, *1 in next st, 2 in next st* repeat around

With Pink:

RD 6-9: Ch 2, 1 dc in each st around

Finish off & weave in ends.

EYES – *Awake*

With Black:

RD 1: Ch 2, hdc 6 into 2^nd ch from hook, sl st to beginning

With White:

RD 2: Ch 2, dc 2 in each hdc around. 
RD 3: Ch 1, sc in same st, 2 sc in each st around, finish off & Weave in ends. Attach to hat.

EYES – *Sleeping*

With White:

RD 1: Ch 2, hdc 6 into 2^nd ch from hook, sl st to beginning

RD 2: Ch 2, dc 2 in each hdc around. 
RD 3: Ch 1, sc in same st, 2 sc in each st around, finish off & Weave in ends. Attach to hat.

I attach the plain white eyes before adding the eyelash detail, but it’s up to you.

Use Tapestry needle to make the eyelid/eyelash pattern as shown in the picture above.

NOSE

With Orange:

Ch 4, sl st in 1^st ch to make a ring

6 sc into the ring, sl st to first sc, finish off and weave in ends. Attach to hat after eyes have been attached.
