Here is the picture of the one my friend Jill made, she was my inspiration!
- 2 wood pallets
- Foam - I used a Queen size memory foam mattress topper (could use craft foam)
- Cardboard scraps
- 4 LOCKING rolling wheels (or legs)
- Batting - mine was pre-cut to queen size
- Home decor weight fabric (I got 4 yards but make sure you measure)
- Optional: Scrap piece of fabric for bottom
- Staple gun & staples
- Sewing Machine
- Drill
- Tape measure
- Utility knife
STEP 1:
Drill pallets together
Place pallets in the center of the foam
Place a scrap piece of cardboard and staple the corners A LOT
Note: make sure you use a barrier between the foam & staple or the staple will tear through the foam
STEP 2:
Staple the sides down
Use cardboard barrier & staple technique as explained in step 1
Note: I had some extra pieces of foam I cut off at this point
STEP 3:
Wrap the ottoman with the batting and staple with cardboard barrier
I used a couple larger pieces of cardboard for this step
STEP 4:
Sew fabric together so it is large enough to cover the ottoman - MEASURE!
Fold the edges to get the look you want (this takes some time)
Staple fabric to the bottom of the ottoman
Note: I didn't use the cardboard barrier method here
STEP 5:
Add the scrap fabric to cover the bottom of the ottoman (optional)
Add either wheels or legs
Flip over and you are DONE! :) GREAT JOB!

LOVES IT!
ReplyDeleteThanks Girl! :)
DeleteKatie! It looks awesome. Your blog looks great, too! Wayyyy nice than mine when I first got started. I have been meaning to try a huge ottoman -- I even have the padding all ready. Just need to snag a few pallets. And fabric. I have the hardest time deciding on fabric.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! :) Fabric was the hardest choice, I got the pallets for free at Ace Hardware.
Deleteyour ottoman is beautiful, wow! you did a great job! wish I could make one of those but it wouldn't fit in our living room! :-) glad you shared it with us, I will be pinning this now! :-)

DeleteGreat idea! Love all the creative things that can be done using pallets1
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for stopping by :) Me too, great way to recycle!
DeleteThis is a great idea! I love it! I just covered stools and used memory foam topper - it was on sale at Wally World an is sooo comfy! I would love to make your ottoman.. will pin! Thank you! Julia
ReplyDeleteThank you! Oh how fun, that is a great idea! Yes, it is very comfortable. If you make the ottoman please send me a picture. It was a lot of fun, it is the centerpiece of our living room now.
DeleteI can totally see my dog curled up on this as "her bed." Looks very comfy and inviting!
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of dog do you have? It would be the perfect perch spot for a pet! :)
DeleteYou won't believe this, but I have a Queen Ann chair that I got years ago from a decorator that is in that same fabric. I would love to make a small ottoman for it. Where did you buy the fabric?
ReplyDeleteWhat a small world!! :) I love this fabric so much, I got it at JoAnn's in the outdoor fabric section. Hope you can find some more, that would be so neat!
DeleteGreat renewed project,Love that someone thought to use for their pets. One tip now that times have changed and new products have come out, is the use of spray adhesive. Spray pallet before you lay on foam, can also cut down on the amount of staples
ReplyDeletewhen tacking fabric. I made one probably 25 years ago and the one thing i remember is over time with my pets jumping up on it the foam shifted over time.
Happy Crafting!
That is a great option! Thanks for sharing. I used a memory foam mattress that was at least 6 inches thick, we had to lay a cardboard barrier between the staples and the mattress so that it would not tear, and it was too thick for the spray. I hope that foam isn't going anywhere! haha. I used at least 200 staples! LOL
